Whether you're a fan of the ever so popular Harry Potter franchise or not, you can't help but fall in love with the adorable Lego games which use charm and wit to replay some of our favorite movies. Taking that leap from Harry Potter to Lego is actually quite simple when you come to the realization that Traveller's Tales has transformed the boy wizard and his companions into block form in their latest Lego series game. With the collecting and action nature of the aformentioned Lego titles, Harry Potter will hopefully not disappoint sending fans of the book series into a mob like rage. Forrtunately, there is little need for concern as the development team is an established creator of addicting titles even outside the Lego realm. So let us explore this potentially magical world that nearly everyone is familiar with.

Time travel is easy. So long as you remember that you need a DeLorean, a Flux capacitor, that the money you have now is useless even a few years ago, the even travel further in the past you'll have to deal with diseases and ailments that people have built immunities too, and that if you travel back and forth and spend a month in the past you're going to be a month older even if you're gone in the present for only a moment. Don't forget Einstein's theory of relativity and that all time streams run parallel. That and the time paradoxes. You know what? Time travel is far more difficult then what it's worth. unless of course you're Crono or a McFly. In any case, exploring the idea of time travel is not a new idea In Singularity you get to play around with the time space continuum. Singularity may not be the first game to play with the idea of time travel, and it may not be the last. The question is, will it be a remarkable title that will stand the test of time?

Like Batman, Indiana Jones and Star Wars before it, Harry Potter has captured the mainstream pop culture phenomena label, and as such Lego has it's sights set on the box office cash cow in it's latest adorably disturbing cinematic Lego rendition of Harry Potter Years 1-4. It was only a matter of time before it was the boy wizard's turn to be transformed and sent into a virtual brick world along with his allies and foes. With the collecting and action nature of the aforementioned Lego titles, Harry Potter will hopefully not disappoint sending fans of the book series into a mob like rage. Fortunately, there is little need for concern as the development team is an established creator of addicting titles even outside the Lego realm.
Tampering with the space time continuum is always a thrill. The thought of creating a paradox that would destroy the universe is an adrenaline filled joy ride. Not too mention your always guaranteed hundreds of different endings. Got the bad ending? Just reverse time and try again! Unfortunately not everyone is lucky enough to have the flux capacitor along with a DeLorean and have to settle for just toying around with the time stream of small areas around them. Which can be equally as fun, just not necessarily as thrilling (come on what is more exciting then knowing you could cause the destruction of the universe as a whole). Singularity just happens to be an FPS that decides to take both approaches to the idea of time travel and matter displacement.. Singularity may not be the first game to play with the idea of time travel, and it may not be the last. The question is, will it be a remarkable title that will stand the test of time?

What occurs when you have an unholy matrimony between Snake, Arkanoid, Bust a Move, and Bejeweled? Why Luxor 2 of course! In this "action-puzzle" game you control a paddle and shoot marbles at what is essentially a moving snake. The goal is to clear the snake's body by matching three of the same colored marbles before it reaches your pyramid. There are power ups along the way which assist you, yet you find a lack of interest in collecting them due to their limited uses. If at any point this title sounded like Zuma, then you're right and probably a casual gamer (or invest way too much time in older cell phone games). Just like Zuma, Luxor 2 has limited appeal and only the most casual of gamers will invest interest in this title.

PSP fanboy's should recognize this title with enthusiasm. Lumines Live was the Tetris of their handheld and was a strong contributing factor to many purchasing the little system. Lumines certainly deserves the same respect as Tetris and as such is now available on XBox Live. Lumines is (in case the Tetris references have somehow evaded you) an addictive puzzle game in which 4x4 squares fall with two color variants in the squares and you must rotate and place the squares so that the colors match and create squares of their own. It's Tetris people, if you're on a gaming site you damn well better know what Tetris is. As you progress there are different themes, which are comprised of variations of backgrounds, colors, and music. It may sound like a geometry professor's erotic dream, but despite it's mathematical roots, the game oozes fun and replayability. A definite purchase for puzzle fans, and anyone that enjoys a truly addictive and remarkable title.

Assassins Creed II

Have you ever wondered what the Italian Renaissance was like? Well Assassins Creed II is your ticket back. Assassins Creed II is the sequel to the already renowned game Assassins Creed; which was already given a 9.5 out of 10 by GameInformer Magazine and several other prestigious gaming magazines. Ubisoft REALLY out-did themselves with this one. They came at this game with a "Cinematic" approach, which I extremely liked. With all the gory street fights(which I loved), heart-pounding chase scenes, and cinematics; this game is WELL worth the play. Now chasing down 12 guys and killing them all in one sword motion is super cool and all, but while playing this game, your going to have to keep in mind the saying "Nothings Perfect" because if you wana make it through this game, your gana have to say this to yourself over and over again to get through to the end.... But trust me, its well worth the wait. So save this game for a rainy day, because you not going to pit it down!

The concept for Aliens Vs. Predator was first realized after the first movies dropped that introduced the two separate races, as well as a lot of one liners that would greatly effect our gaming community today. Recently though, after the last Alien Vs. Predator video game and the movie AVP 2, there was no real news until the announcement of this new game and the iconic ability to play campaign and multi player as all three races, Aliens, Predator, and Humans, followed by the gruesome deaths that every person playing a shooter enjoys the most. This game also brings forth some new functions that people whom have played the other games will be surprised to see. Overall, this is a game that I wouldn't recommend to buy, but I will say that it is a game that everyone should at least play once.

Super Metroid

It isn’t necessary to write a huge text to explain why Super Metroid is one of the best games of all time. However, this review will present some of the features this masterpiece has, so that if you’ve never played it, you do yourself a huge favor to download it. Super Metroid has it all: a compelling story with a well established link with its predecessors, a deep and involving atmosphere, a huge planet with many different environments to be explored, et cetera. The bounty hunter Samus Aran, in the previous game, eradicated all the metroids from their homeworld, SR-388. One last metroid, however, is taken to be researched in the Ceres Space Colony. After receiving a distress call from the Colony, Samus comes back and encounters Ridley stealing the metroid and escaping to the pirate homeworld, Zebes. Samus, chasing Ridley, arrives on the planet and that’s where the game really begins. Zebes is a huge planet and you must find your way in a non-linear path. Many places are impossible to reach without a certain upgrade for the Power Suit, although it isn’t necessary to obtain all of them to beat the game. With sky-high production values, Super Metroid stands as one of the greatest action games of all time and it is played over and over by hardcore fans wishing to improve their speedruns and also by lucky newcomers who will download it as soon as they finish reading this review.

Super Mario World

Mario made his debut in the 16-bit, alongside the Super Nintendo in 1991, with one of the greatest platformers ever made. It managed to surpass the expectations established after Super Mario Bros 3, and it’s so good it makes you think about downloading it even after having played it a couple of times before. And if you haven’t played it yet, you should download it ASAP because you’re missing a timeless classic.
Level design and controls are main aspects of a platformer, and in Super Mario World there are more than 70 incredibly designed levels, not to mention the secret exits, and the controls are one step ahead in precision, compared to the NES predecessors.
Instead of different worlds, SMW features one huge world with secret ways and different environments, usually divided by one of the Koopa castles. The graphics are beautiful and colored, especially being one of the first 16-bit games to be released, and the soundtrack composed by Koji Kondo is remarkable as usual.
Super Mario World is the kind of game that doesn’t feel old with the passing of time. In fact, 2D platformers are still being developed, even in the 3D games era, simply because they are awesome. New Super Mario Bros. and Wario Land Shake It! are some examples of that. If by chance you don’t have the SNES or the GBA versions or simply want to add this masterpiece to your VC collection, download it and be happy.

If you're into RPGs, this is the best game available for the TurboGrafx on the Virtual Console. For 800 Wii Points, you can download a two-separate adventure pack of the game that is revered by many TurboGrafx-CD fans as the best game of the console. The young hero Adol Christin must recover the six books of Ys, an ancient kingdom claimed to exist even after a cataclysm that happened in the past. The gameplay here is one of the secrets behind the success of Ys, because it is simple and addicting. To attack, you only need to touch your enemy – no attack button pressing – preferably from the rear of from the sides, or it can hit you as well. Being a RPG, the amount of damage you deal and receive varies from your stats, determined by your level and equipment. Again, nothing complicated, but very fun and rewarding. We can’t forget that the VC version you download is an emulated version from the TGCD. Because of that, the game features voice acting, anime-like cutscenes and great sound quality, with an equally great soundtrack composed by Yuzo Koshiro. The graphics, on the other hand, aren’t as bright as the rest of the package. Nevertheless, you will find one (or two) of the best RPG from the early 90’s here, and that is why you must buy this game.

The Book of Eli

The Book of Eli brings forth a tale of a post apocalyptic world that is set 30 years after a cataclysmic war that ripped a hole in the sky, which ended up killing a majority of the world and blinding part of the people that were left alive. It starts off with the tale of a man named Eli, whom is in possession of the last Holy Bible left in the world, and under god, he is traveling west, towards an unknown destination. In my own opinion, the movie slightly reminds me of the Road, which came out late last year, but with the twist of being much more action packed, as well as a stunning role by Denzel Washington as Eli, and an ending that not many people would have expected. In a sense, this movie brings forth a new view on religion that would even stun the ones that are already so religiously inclined.

Daybreakers is the story 10 years after the outbreak that has turned almost 95% of the world into vampires. The story begins with Edward Dalton who is in charge of finding a blood substitute for the reason that the humans are on the brink of extinction and the supply of human blood is running out. During Edwards birthday he runs a car off the road on accident and finds out that it is filled with humans, normal circumstances would cause him to turn them in to the government, but he lets them go. Later they visit claiming to have a cure, at the same time a cure is found, a blood substitute is found, which the company he works for tries to cover up the cure for the sake of immortality and money. They have the cure, but no way to give it to the public, since everyone is starving it would be a vicious cycle of almost everyone dieing. The ending leads into a possible sequel. The movie in general is good, but the main problem is that the ending is sub-par and quite a disappointment.

Squaresoft produced many great RPGs. Some of them became long-running series, such as Final Fantasy, and most of them implemented great ideas. Secret of Mana is an incredible real-time RPG – a masterpiece that gave birth to one of those franchises. There was nothing like this game when it was released, in the early 90s, and it is very creative, fun and engaging even to today’s standards. You know a game is a masterpiece when it constantly appears in rankings as one of the best games of all time. That being said, if you want to stop reading this review to go download this classic, please do so because this game is arguably the best game the VC has to offer until now. Masterpieces are being gathered in the Virtual Console, and I’m sure that more are on their way. Now, with the VC version, Secret of Mana has the potential to be even better. The game is the same, but it is easier to pull off one of the greatest features of this RPG: three-player co-op. It is incredibly fun to play this real-time RPG with two buddies and, instead of having a SNES multitap, it is only necessary any combination of GaneCube and/or Classic Controllers. Let us not forget the remarkable soundtrack this game has, from the happy town themes, to the dense and beautiful "Fear of the Heavens". With this special mention to the music, everything else is great as well: brilliant and colorful graphics and incredible gameplay. So turn up the volume, call two buddies and be amazed by this true masterpiece.

This is the first game to bear the word “Shining”, one of the most productive Sega franchises. However, this game isn’t a strategy RPG like Shining Force, instead of that, it is a first person dungeon crawler, very well presented, with beautiful graphics – especially considering that it is an early release for the Genesis - and catching soundtrack. The king of Thornwood demands that the bravest adventurer of the country defeat Dark Sol, who is threatening the peace of the population. It is your task to venture in the dark labyrinth crowded with monsters to pass the tests of the ancients and become a knight. The whole game happens in three places: the castle, the town and, of course, the labyrinth. While progressing through the levels, the layout of the mazes will be more complex, so you will get lost a couple of times. You play with a party of three, and a couple of different abilities make the battles a little less repetitive, although you will have to grind for XP a lot in this game, but just as much as with other old-school RPGs. After gathering some gold pieces, you go back to town to upgrade the party’s equipment, talk to townsfolk and go back to explore the next section of the labyrinth. The experience becomes tedious at some times, especially for those who would prefer action RPGs, but Shining in the Darkness is still a very well made first person RPG and the fans of this genre should try this one out.
